Arnarstapi Midnight Sun Engagement Photos on Iceland’s Snaefellsness Peninsula
Shaina + Mikes midnight sun iceland adventure Session | Snaefellsness Peninsula Iceland Elopement Photographer | Iceland Engagement Photo Inspiration
Holy moly am I excited for you to see this Iceland adventure session! There are few things cooler than the midnight sun - and Snefellsness Peninsula is an amazing place to experience it at!
Shaina and Mike hired me for their intimate wedding in Iceland nearly 2 years ago. There had been so many conversations + excitement leading up to this wedding weekend, and the stoke got even higher when they said they wanted to add on an adventure session to kick the weekend off. YES PLEASE! These guys hadn’t ever explored Iceland, so our adventure session was their first time to really get a taste for this amazing land they decided to get married in - talk about high pressure!!
We landed on the Snaefellsness peninsula and they let me choose some epic spots. I spent the day before driving around the entire peninsula exploring for myself, and was overflowing with some many recommendations of where we could head. That peninsula is one of my favorite parts of Iceland, and you can spend forever exploring it. So we landed on the little village of Arnarstapi.
In full circle of events, what originally sparked Shaina and Mike’s interest in hiring me so long ago when I was just starting my business and hadn’t really dove into the adventure/destination niche, was that they saw that I had been to Iceland. In fact, on my second trip to Iceland, Chad and I were the models for a workshop led by Robert J. Hill, and we shot at this natural bridge in Arnarstapi! Shaina had loved those photos, so it only seemed fitting to take them back to that bridge - not to mention it’s freaking EPIC.
We met up at 8pm - yeah. What!? Midnight sun for you! There’s a neat spot not far from Arnarstapi that is essentially a rift in a rock wall with a little river running through it. We started there, and actually spent way more time there than I was anticipating but it’s such a cool spot, we had to have time to explore! Afterwards we headed to the natural bridge. It was a gorgeous night with soft light, a calm sea and not much wind - which seems to be a rarity in Iceland. I brought them some Einstock - our shared favorite beer (absolutely have some when you’re in Iceland!!) and they enjoyed them as we watched the sun lower on the horizon at 11pm (ha!).
Iceland is such an amazing country - so many landscapes that make you feel so small and so inspired and an overall feeling of cozy, nordicness, AKA my two favorite things. It made my heart so happy to get to share the experience of Iceland with these guys, not only this day, but the following days as their wedding weekend progressed. Stay tuned to see their intimate wedding pop up here in a few weeks!
I know - after seeing this you’re probably heading to google flights next to book a flight to Iceland. And you SHOULD! Experience the midnight sun in the summer months, the northern lights in the winter months, and the incredible landscape and culture year around.
