What to do if it Rains on Your Elopement Day ft. Glacier National Park Elopement

A short & sweet guide to Rain on Your Elopement Day (what to do?), featuring Jordyn & Scott’s beautiful Rainy Glacier Wedding

When Jordyn & Scott planned their elopement for late August at Glacier National Park, I think rain was the last thing on their minds. This sweet couple are both in the military, and Jordyn has been studying to become a military nurse. Safe to say, they’re both super busy and were really looking forward to their intimate Glacier wedding, which they decided to turn into a little mini vacation as well. When they arrived though, the day before, all eyes were on the forecast which… well, it wasn’t great. They decided to go ahead anyway and ended up having a really beautiful Rainy Glacier Wedding. Somehow, the wet weather made their day even more special and added an extra element of beauty to their photos.

WHAT TO DO IF IT RAINS ON YOUR ELOPEMENT DAY?

Rainy Glacier Wedding

Jordyn & Scott had invited some of their immediate family along to join them in their wedding celebration, and had planned a sunrise ceremony at Ryan’s Meadow. We all piled into the cars in the morning, hoping for the best, to find it absolutely pouring. After a little wait, the morning light began to peek through, and we decided to go for it – despite the continued rain. It’s probably a good thing though, because when Jordyn read vows to her new stepson, as well as to Scott, there wasn’t a dry eye. The whole day, the weather continued to be a factor, but they were just happy to be there and to be together, and they didn’t let it affect their moods at all.

As much as Glacier is known for being relatively cool and rainy, July & August tend to be its driest months. This is probably also why it’s the most popular time of year for hikers and holidaymakers alike – and for intimate weddings and elopements! That said, it does still rain 7 days of the month on average, so it’s definitely worth coming prepared.

What to do if it Rains on Your Elopement Day?

People always say that you should have a plan B for your wedding day, in case the weather gets in the way, but it’s not always so simple if you’re planning an adventurous elopement. Still, there are a few ways that you can be prepared if it Rains on Your Elopement Day.

Pack Waterproof Clothes, just in case

This is especially important if you’re planning to elope somewhere that is known for its wet weather. Pack a waterproof jacket and a warm sweater, especially if you’re planning on doing some hiking. It’s best to be comfortable while you’re hiking, and you can always take off your extra layers for portraits and cuddle up with your love to keep warm!

Rain on Your Wedding Day? Bring Clear Umbrellas!

If it’s looking like it will rain on your wedding day, and you’d really rather stay dry, my best advice is to bring two matching clear umbrellas. These can be truly beautiful for photos, without blocking the light, the epic scenery, or your beautiful faces while we take portraits! If you’re inviting guests to your elopement, you could also recommend they bring a clear plastic umbrella for the day as well.

Be Ready to Just Enjoy the Day

And finally, come to your elopement with a plan to have the best time, no matter what happens! Rain can be incredibly beautiful (you can even check out a few more “bad weather” elopements here, here & here if you’re still not so sure). It can even add something truly special to your day, if you let it! Jordyn & Scott were just so happy to be together and to share their vows, no matter what, and it shone through.

Are you planning your own adventurous wedding and are determined to have the best time, even if it rains? I’d love to help document your epic day, for you to look back on for life. Just get in touch to start planning!
