How to Get Married at Glacier’s Amphitheaters, featuring Savhannah & Jake’s beautiful Glacier National Park Elopement

Savhannah & Jake chose to elope to Glacier National Park last summer, starting with an intimate ceremony at one of Glacier’s sweet little Amphitheaters. They invited a few friends along for their ceremony, even having a friend officiate, before heading on a hike out to Avalanche Lake. It was so beautiful celebrating with them -their joy and excitement for the day was infections, and Savhannah’s red hair was just popping against all the greenery! Get Married at Glacier’s Amphitheaters

Of course, I’ve shared plenty of information in the past about eloping at Glacier National Park (I’ll include a list of links below!), but did you know that Glacier is home to a number of Amphitheaters that make for a perfect wedding ceremony location? Most of these Amphitheaters have parking nearby, have seating, and look out over spectacular backdrops. This makes them a particularly good option if you’re planning to have an intimate wedding ceremony in Glacier National Park.

Like most National Parks, Glacier National Park requires you to have a special use permit to host your intimate wedding there. As part of your application, you’ll need to make a note of which location you’d like to book. But how do you choose which amphitheater is the right one for you? If you head over to this Wedding Locations in Glacier National Park document, you’ll find a full list of the available options as well as any restrictions that might apply.

For example, Avalanche Amphitheater, where Savhannah & Jake had their intimate wedding ceremony, can only have 15 to 20 guests, depending on the season. Most spots have limits of 20 people, although a few allow up to 30 or even 50 in the case of Fish Creek Amphitheater.

Deciding how many guests you’d like to have at your intimate wedding (noting that an elopement wouldn’t often have many more than 10 people) is a good place to start. From there, check other restrictions like equipment restrictions, parking, and accessibility.

Savhannah & Jake also chose the Avalanche Amphitheater because they wanted to have portraits at Avalanche Lake itself. The trail out to Avalanche Lake isn’t a super quick hike, but its crystal-clear waters and epic views of waterfalls from the Sperry Glacier’s “hanging valley” make it well worth it! Savhannah & Jake were so wonderful and sweet, and so excited for this day. Savhannah didn’t even mind hiking in her wedding dress – she kept saying it was so easy that she was going to do it all the time!

If you’d like to have your own Avalanche Lake Elopement, I’d recommend having hiking boots for the trail, and bringing the right packs. I’m more than happy to help you plan exactly what you’d need as part of being your Avalanche Lake Elopement Photographer!
