August Sunset Hiking elopement near Mt. Baker in Washington State

This August 3rd hiking elopement near Mt. Baker is a prime example of golden summer days in the pacific northwest. While the trails were mostly blanketed in wildflowers, there was still some winter snow leftover in areas near the summits. We planned a very “go with the flow” sort of day around a few key activities. Mainly, their ceremony and a sunset hike further up the mountain.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your own laid-back hiking elopement near Mt. Baker or the cascades, let’s get into it!

Artist’s point elopement ceremony under Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan

This couple came all the way from PA to elope in Washington State, so they were most excited about the mountain views. We chose a couple impressive hikes to explore during the day. The hikes are each a bit more time consuming, so we decided to skip getting ready photos and meet right on the trailhead to Artist’s Point.

There, the couple’s officiant met us. Their officiant was actually the person who introduced them at their church years ago, and he and his wife flew out just for the occasion. Having someone who knew them both so well guide the ceremony was a very personal touch.

There under Mt. Shuksan and Baker, they signed their paperwork and celebrated with ice cream bars.

Jeep excursion up a rugged road for sunset portraits and dinner

After the ceremony, we split off from their officiant and hopped into their 4x4 Jeep rental. Our next location was to a trailhead up a rugged mountain road, and we got to test the full capabilities of the Jeep on the way up!

We spent the hike out marveling at all the summer wildflowers. At one point, we had to cross over some of the winter’s remaining snow, which is always a treat to see mid-summer. This portion was truly to just “go with the flow” and explore wherever we were drawn to.

Once we soaked up all the golden sunset light, we sat down for “dinner” on the overlook. They had brought up their Jetboils and some dried camping dinners to finish the day with.

It was a great way to cap off this successful hiking elopement near Mt. Baker!
