Day After Wedding Photography | Adventure Wedding Portraits Maui

These Adventure Wedding Portraits in Maui were the perfect way to wrap up Mackenzie & Stephen’s epic Hawaiian Wedding celebrations. They’re also a beautiful example of why you should consider planning a Day After Wedding Photography session.

As promised, today I’m sharing part two of Mackenzie & Stephen’s beautiful Maui Wedding Photography with you all! (In case you missed it, you can find part 1 here).

Mackenzie & Stephen planned a truly beautiful intimate wedding at Steeple House for them and their guests, with most of their guests flying in especially for the occasion. While they really valued their wedding photography, they also wanted to make the most of having all their loved ones in the same place. So, I suggested we do a Day After Wedding Photography Session. It’s the perfect compromise that allows time for beautiful wedding portraits without taking away from your carefully planned, intimate wedding party.

What is a Day After Wedding Session?

A Day After Wedding Session is simply a portrait session that happens the day after your wedding! Instead of (or as well as) taking portraits on your wedding day, you get dressed up in your wedding clothes the day after your wedding and head out with your photographer. It might seem like a strange idea at first, but there are so many reasons why you should consider it!

Why you should plan a Day After Wedding Photography session

In Mackenzie & Stephen’s case, a Day After Wedding Photography session made sense because their guests had flown to Maui especially for their wedding. They wanted to make the most of their time with them, instead of spending hours taking portraits. Even if you’re planning an intimate wedding closer to home, making time to talk with each of your guests is definitely something to consider! Between getting ready, the ceremony, sitting down to eat something and enjoying moments with your love, it can be hard to spend quality time with 20-30 people. Planning a Day After Wedding Photography session will free up a couple of hours to help you do just that.

Day After Portraits also mean you’ll likely be more relaxed and have more time to explore. If you have your wedding portraits the day after your wedding, you won’t need to worry about when you need to be back or where you need to be next. Instead, you can simply enjoy exploring with your favorite person, all while we take a bunch of beautiful photos! This also means you’ll have so many more location options.

Traditionally, wedding portraits are limited to locations that are close to the ceremony or reception venue. A day after session means you can go wherever you want with no rush – just you, your love, and some incredible scenery.

So, why should you plan a Day After Wedding Photography session?

  • More quality time with your guests

  • Less stress on your wedding day

  • Relaxed, carefree wedding photos

  • Better location options

Of course, location was another reason Mackenzie & Stephen chose to have a Day After Wedding Photography session. For such a tiny island, Maui has so much beautiful diversity in its scenery and landscapes, and we wanted to explore as much of it as we could! Knowing that they’d be partying into the night, Mackenzie & Stephen opted for a sunset session the next day. We planned to finish up their portraits on the beach, so we started further uphill on this incredible rocky overlook. It was reminiscent of Scotland, with rocky cliffs, the ocean and these beautiful rolling green hills behind them. We headed down to the beach slowly, treating the session as if we were just out exploring Maui together. In that little bit of time and distance though, we were able to get so much diversity in photos. Mackenzie & Stephen danced ankle deep in the water, ran along the beach and were almost never not laughing. It was the perfect continuation to the day before, and a beautiful way to wrap up their incredible Maui Wedding.
