Zion Anniversary Portraits | Utah Elopement Photography Mentoring

Rachel & Josh’s Adventurous Zion Anniversary Portraits timed up perfectly with a Utah Elopement Photography Mentoring session I’d planned for my mentees. Are you curious about what that involves? Then keep reading!

Two years ago, Rachel & Josh eloped in Yosemite and it was actually one of the first elopements I personally shot there. It was the most amazing day, so it was really special this year when they reached out about Zion Anniversary Portraits. Well, actually, the shoot was planned as a special photography session for one of my mentees, but it lined up perfectly with Rachel & Josh’s anniversary, which made it all the more special.

ZION ANNIVERSARY PORTRAITS

Adventurous Zion Anniversary Portraits

For Rachel & Josh’s Adventurous Zion Anniversary Portraits, we headed to one of my favorite slot canyons in Zion National Park. These two are both so natural together and are really down for anything. Their joy is infectious, and their easygoing nature was perfect for the mentoring session. And of course, it made beautiful photos for them to celebrate their anniversary with!

Zion is such a beautiful National Park – its famous around the world for its contrasting red rock, lush greens, and epic canyons – which of course can make it difficult to choose just one location! Sometimes though, whether you’re planning adventure portraits or elopement photography, it’s important to remember that less can be more. We had planned to head over to Canyon Overlook after we’d taken some shots at the Slot Canyon, but in the end, we decided just to hang around the slot canyon. The light was beautiful, there was no one else around, and everyone was just having so much fun.

Canyon Overlook is out-of-this-world, sure, but it’s also one of Zion’s most famous photo spots. It would definitely have been crowded. This means it would be hard for the photographers, my mentees, to get their shots, and perhaps Rachel & Josh wouldn’t have been so comfortable. In that sense, this shoot was also a really lovely reminder that adventure portraits are what you make of them, and it’s always good to be flexible with plans and take every session as it comes.

Utah Elopement Photography Mentoring

You may or may not know, but as well as being an elopement & adventure portrait photographer, I offer mentoring for photographers! I’m really passionate about helping photographers to grow their business – to do what they love and do it well. Learning from someone a few steps ahead of you is always an incredible way to propel yourself forward, and I know that, for some photographers, I’m able to be that someone.

Part of this process can include learning to shoot. My Utah Elopement Photography Mentoring sessions offer a practical way for photographers to both build their portfolio and get instant feedback. I help them plan a shoot, find a couple, and make the most of the session with one-on-one advice about planning adventure sessions and approaching the shoot itself. It’s always such a joy witnessing my mentees grow and learn.

If you’re a photographer and you want to take that next step, or you’re looking to get into elopements and adventure sessions, I’d love to guide you on your way. Get in touch now to inquire about Adventure Photography Mentoring sessions.
