WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS BEFORE YOU ELOPE

But First, An Acadia National Park Engagement Session

This post was inspired by Chloe & Tyler, the sweetest couple whose photos are featured in this post. When they reached out to plan their adventure elopement last year, they were super open to talking about ideas and options. Ultimately, they decided to elope to Olympic National Park in Washington, but they were also keen to book in an adventure engagement session. They wanted to celebrate their engagement and were keen to keep exploring America’s amazing national parks. They didn’t come alone, either! Chloe & Tyler spent a week exploring Acadia and its surrounds with their friends, just having a lot of fun and enjoying the experience. One of those experiences? A sunset fall engagement session with me at Acadia!

So, I guess that’s already reason number one Why You Should Have Engagement Photos Before You Elope! It’s an amazing excuse to explore a new place.

A Chance to Spend Time with Your Photographer

Believe it or not, the person you’ll likely spend the most time with on your wedding day, asides from your spouse, is your photographer! This means it’s so important that you get along well with your photographer. In reality, this is true for both traditional weddings and elopements, but given how intimate elopements are, it’s even more important that you like the person who’ll be by your side throughout the day. And what better way to do that than with an engagement session? An Engagement Session is a great chance to get to know your photographer. Having spent some together might even help calm any elopement day nerves!

You’ll Be More Confident in Front of the Camera

If you’re nervous about having your photo taken, then don’t worry! It’s totally normal. Not all of us are excited about the idea of being photographed (even if you appreciate the value of photography!). The beauty of elopement and engagement photography though is that it’s not so much about the photos as it is about celebrating the two of you. I always want you to have an incredible experience, whether for your engagement session or on your elopement day, and a big part of that is making sure you’re comfortable in front of the camera. An engagement session is a great way to help calm any pre-elopement nerves. You’ll get to explore a new place, have a lot of fun and hopefully, realize that having your photo taken isn’t so bad (especially with your love by your side).

Are you planning an elopement? I’d love to help capture it for you – and an engagement session, too, if you’re up for it!
