Fly Fishing Couples Portraits | Adventurous Wyoming Elopement

Fly Fishing Couples Portraits are an amazing way to celebrate the person you love, doing the thing that you love. And it’s exactly what this couple did for day 1 of their Adventurous Wyoming Elopement.

I’m pretty sure I say this about all of my couples, but Meaghan & Trey were absolutely the sweetest. This lovely duo is from Asheville, North Carolina, and they are really big fly fishers. As well as being super passionate about fly fishing, they love Wyoming and the Tetons. They knew a big traditional wedding wasn’t for them, so instead, they decided to make the Tetons, Wyoming, and fly fishing the centerpieces of their Adventurous Wyoming Elopement. Meaghan & Trey’s beautiful intimate wedding, which they kicked off by combining fly fishing with pre-wedding portraits, is the perfect example of how to plan an elopement that is genuinely true to the two of you.

Wyoming Couples Portraits

Wyoming is one of the Pacific Northwest’s least known areas, but it’s just as beautiful! Really, as a location for adventurous elopements, it’s definitely underrated. Meaghan & Trey already loved the area, as they visit often to go fly fishing, and they especially wanted to include the Tetons. Unfortunately, the Grand Teton National Park has recently implemented new rules that make taking couples portraits or elopement photography there almost impossible. That doesn’t mean you can’t plan an Adventurous Wyoming Elopement or couples’ portraits though! Some of the best spots with views of the Tetons are actually outside the park, like the Wedding Tree, which has a beautiful view over the mountains, in the Jackson Ranger District.

Adventurous Wyoming Elopement

Of course, Fly Fishing Couples Portraits won’t be for everyone. In fact, I’d say it’s probably not a good idea unless you’re already a lover of fly fishing. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from day 1 of Meaghan & Trey’s intimate wedding! For the first day of their Adventurous Wyoming Elopement, we met up near one of their favorite spots in time for sunrise. The light was so beautiful it was hard to tear ourselves away – especially because a mama & baby moose appeared in the background! It was so incredibly special. We made the most of the alpenglow, the epic view over the Grand Tetons, and the muddy ground beneath our feet before heading off to our next location.

Meaghan & Trey actually met when they both began working at a fly fishing store, so it was only natural to include this in their day! While I always recommend meeting at sunrise, it especially made sense so that we could get their Fly Fishing Couples Portraits (and actually catch something – which they did!). Meaghan & Trey changed into better clothes for fly fishing, and brought their gear out. They also brought Trey’s brother along so that he could join in the fun. It was so fun seeing them do something together that they’re so passionate about. And it just goes to show – if there’s something the two of you love to do together, why not include it in your wedding? Even if it goes against all the norms and standards? After all, your elopement day is exactly that – yours.
